🧳 The Mid-Season Slump: What It Is – and How to Get Through It

At the start of the season, everything’s new. You’ve just arrived, the weather’s class, you’re buzzing to meet people and get stuck into work. But then comes mid-season — and things can shift.

Whether you're in Zante, Magaluf, Ibiza, Thailand, or Bali, nearly everyone hits a wall at some point. That “mid-season slump” feeling. You’re not alone — and here’s how to deal with it without losing your head.

🥱 The Symptoms:

It creeps in gradually:

  • Work starts to feel repetitive

  • Nights out feel more draining than exciting

  • You’re missing home more than you thought

  • Flatmates are getting on your nerves

  • You just feel a bit “off” for no real reason

This is normal. You're not doing anything wrong.

🌡️ Why It Happens

Working abroad is intense. It’s long hours, high energy, often on minimal sleep. You’ve been living, working, partying and socialising in the same place with the same people for weeks — it’s bound to catch up with you.

In places like Ibiza or Magaluf, where nightlife is non-stop, burnout happens fast. In Thailand or Bali, it’s a slower pace, but the distance from home hits harder.

🛠️ What Helps:

1. Change Something Small

Sometimes just switching up your routine helps. Try a new spot for breakfast. Go for a walk somewhere you haven’t explored yet. In Bali, this could be a yoga class or market. In Zante, a solo swim before work. Doesn’t have to be deep — just different.

2. Cut Back on Nights Out (for a bit)

Missing one party won’t kill your social life. Get some proper sleep, eat well, and give your body a rest. You’ll enjoy the next one more when you’re actually up for it.

3. Talk to Someone

Chances are, others feel the same. Chat to someone you trust. Don’t bottle it up or assume you’re the only one not loving every second. You’re not.

4. Remember Why You Came

Write it down if you have to. Whether it was to experience something new, save money, escape routine, or just enjoy the ride — remind yourself of that.

💬 Final Thought

The mid-season slump is real, but it passes. You’re allowed to feel flat sometimes — it doesn’t cancel out the good parts.

Keep showing up, look after yourself, and let the off-days come and go. By the end of the season, you’ll realise you got through it — and that’s what makes it worth it.
